Pasos for Oak Cliff, a non-profit, is set up by Jesse Acosta, a high school teacher, and Alejandra Zendejas, a math tutor. We both consider ourselves sneakerheads.
As sneakerhead educators and members of the community, we are fully aware that parents and guardians struggle to supply some basic necessities for their children - this is especially true when it comes to shoes.
As a result, we decided to turn our LOVE for sneakers into a proactive start up - Pasos for Oak Cliff. The goal of Pasos for Oak Cliff is to give students new shoes. The lack of good quality shoes leads to discomfort, ridicule, bullying, and isolation. We can prevent that from happening, but we cannot do it alone, we need YOUR SUPPORT.
MISSION & PILLARS
Our mission is to build a culture of education for upward social mobility by
tackling social inequities.
Our mission is carried out by rooting it in our core values, C.A.R.E.
C.A.R.E. stands for Community & Culture, Action, Responsibility, and Education.
Community & Culture
Pasos believes it's critical to look at community and culture to live out its mission and vision properly. Being culturally responsive to community and culture will allow our organization to build successful programs and events.
Pasos is committed to being proactive and doing the work. We ensure that our efforts in the community are constantly being made effectively with transparency. We intentionally support low-income families within the community by providing necessities like shoes for youth to help build self-esteem and confidence.
Pasos is accountable to the community we serve. We are transparent with our work to build trust and a stronger community.
Pasos believes that only education can liberate our community from the lack of success. We improve the inequities in education by providing footwear, scholarships, and other educational resources.
